The shape of our face is one of the key factors that determine our first impression and image. People with egg-shaped faces and a V-line often appear gentle and sophisticated, while those with angular or uneven facial contours may seem stern or angry, leading to complexes.  Recently, as appearance has become an important competitive factor, many people with angular or uneven facial shapes are turning to the three types of facial contour surgery to change their contour lines and achieve a positive and appealing impression, overcoming their complexes.

What is facial contour surgery?

Facial contour surgery is a method of removing unnecessary parts of the face to create a harmonious and balanced facial shape. It is commonly referred to as the three types of facial contour surgery. The three types of facial contour surgery typically involve adjusting the bones of the square jaw, protruding cheekbones, and wide chin tip to change the overall shape and size of the face.

About the three types of facial contour surgery

👉3 types of facial contour; Square Jaw Surgery

Square Jaw Surgery is performed when the part extending from in front of the ear to the tip of the jaw is angular or the lower jaw is excessively developed. Rather than simply cutting the angled part as seen from the side, the surgery involves making a long osteotomy extending to the front to create a sleek jawline that looks slim from the front as well.

The key is not to excessively osteotomize but to gently carve in a curved shape. Excessive bone cutting can lead to 'secondary angles' (unnatural, artificially created facial angles after surgery) or a 'witch's chin' that extends in a straight line from below the ear, so caution is necessary.

👉3 types of facial contour; Zygoma Reduction Surgery

In the case of zygoma reduction, when the cheekbones are excessively protruding as seen from the front or a 45-degree side view, pushing them inward can improve to a softer image. Since the zygoma is only 3-5mm thick, it's challenging to achieve significant reduction by shaving from the outside, and there's a risk of breaking the bone if done aggressively. Therefore, the procedure involves slightly osteotomizing the protruded cheekbones and then pushing them in, enabling the creation of a smooth facial line while preserving the facial volume.

👉3 types of facial contour; Chin Tip Surgery

While reducing the square jaw or cheekbones softens the facial lines, there's a limit to the dramatic frontal effect that can be achieved. Thus, to address this issue, chin tip surgery is often conducted to adjust the chin to the appropriate size, whether it's too long, short, or wide.

The chin tip refers to the bone located at the end of the lower jaw. If there's a double chin, slightly extending the chin tip forward can improve it, while moving the chin tip backward can alleviate a protruding chin.

In the three types of facial contour surgery, it's not just about aggressively cutting the bone; it's better to consider methods that naturally improve the individual's chin angle, width, and proportion. It's also important to check the overall protrusion or angle of the chin, skin type, muscles, and the amount of fat to create a slender, soft, and smooth facial line.

Moreover, it's crucial to identify the location of nerve lines in advance to prevent damage during surgery, making it a key point. Therefore, it's advisable to consult with experienced medical staff and plan the surgery.

If you are considering the three types of facial contour surgery, it's recommended to seek a medical institution that considers both aesthetic and functional aspects.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A]

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A] Today, we have compiled clear answers from a Jayjun Plastic Surgery specialist in Korea to frequently asked questions by patients who are considering rhinoplasty.  Please note that surgical methods and outcomes may vary depending on the individual, so use this information as a general guide. Q1. Can the nasal tip be raised and improved naturally using only septal cartilage? Yes, it can be possible, although it depends on individual conditions. In the past, surgeries were done using only septal cartilage, and even now, if the conditions allow, natural and sophisticated results can be achieved with septal cartilage alone. However, if the nose is very small or upturned (short nose), cartilage alone may not provide enough support, so a stronger structure is needed to fix the tip. In such cases, rib cartilage (autologous or donated) may be used. In principle, if there are no major nasal issue...
