Nostril Reduction - Slimming Down Spread-Out Nostrils

Nostril Reduction - Slimming Down Spread-Out Nostrils

Our nose plays a significant role in influencing a person's appearance and serves various aesthetic and functional needs as an essential body organ. When the nose is proportionally high and slim, it contributes to a refined appearance. However, if the nose is too low and the tip is bulbously spread, it can give a dull or bland impression, becoming a complex for some people. Reflecting this, there's a growing trend of interest in rhinoplasty among those dissatisfied with the shape of their nose.

In the past, rhinoplasty was primarily considered by those looking to elevate a low nose. However, recently, more people seek to make detailed changes to their nose, such as reducing a bulbous tip or large nostrils to improve a bland appearance, increasing interest in Nostril Reduction.

Consequently, there's an increasing number of inquiries at our clinic about surgery to slim down spread-out nostrils.

Most people inquiring about Nostril Reduction at our clinic usually have concerns like

1. Wide and blunt nostrils.

2. Excessively large nostrils.

3. Wide nostrils even after rhinoplasty.

4. Disproportion between the nostrils and the bridge of the nose.

Many people have concerns because wide and blunt nostrils or large nostrils that flare when smiling can make the face appear broad and dull, giving a bland impression. Therefore, many are interested in Nostril Reduction to reduce these wide and blunt nostrils for an improved image.

What is Nostril Reduction?

It's also referred to as nostril reduction surgery. It's a surgical method that can be considered when the area of the nostrils appears relatively larger than the size of the face or nose.

Generally, an ideal nose shape is one where the nostrils do not extend beyond the vertical line between the eyes and eyebrows, and from below, the nostrils appear kidney bean-shaped and smaller than the lips. If the nostrils are bulbously spread, it can make the face look bland and affect the impression, so improvement is possible through Nostril Reduction.

Nostril Reduction is suitable for situations where the tip of the nose is low, and the nostrils are horizontally oval-shaped, or when the alar droop is severe compared to the length of the columella.

If the tip of the nose is low and the shape of the nostrils appears as a horizontal oval rather than kidney bean-shaped from below, even if nose lifting surgery is performed, there will still be excess alar parts, necessitating bulbous tip reduction.

Also, in cases where the alar droop is severe compared to the length of the columella in the center of the nose, bulbous tip reduction can not only make the shape of the nostrils smaller but also improve the drooping itself.

What are the methods for Nostril Reduction?

Nostril Reduction varies depending on the shape of the nose and can be categorized mainly into non-incisional and incisional methods.

If the skin of the nostrils is thin or the nostrils are not excessively wide, improvement can be made using a non-incisional method, which involves tying the nostrils together with a thread without incisions.

On the other hand, if the skin on the nostrils is thick and the nostrils appear round and spread out, an incisional method may be applied, which involves making incisions only on the outer part of the nostrils to reduce their size. If the nostrils themselves look wide, an internal incisional nostril reduction, which involves excising tissue from the base of the nostrils and then suturing, can be used to slim down the spread-out nostrils.

Nostril Reduction is often perceived as a simple surgery to reduce the size of the nostrils. However, as mentioned earlier, there are various types, such as cases with wide cartilage or thick skin, and the surgery outcomes differ depending on the method. Therefore, it's necessary to accurately determine which type you belong to and then proceed with the appropriate surgical approach.

To achieve this, remember that it's essential to get an accurate diagnosis from experienced medical professionals who can consider both the aesthetic design and functional aspects. Establishing a surgical plan after thorough consultation is the key to safely achieving a slimmer nostril with high satisfaction.

At our clinic, medical professionals with extensive anatomical knowledge of the nose meet individual needs with surgical methods that suit each person's facial balance. If you are dissatisfied with the shape of your nostrils, we recommend getting a detailed consultation.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A]

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A] Today, we have compiled clear answers from a Jayjun Plastic Surgery specialist in Korea to frequently asked questions by patients who are considering rhinoplasty.  Please note that surgical methods and outcomes may vary depending on the individual, so use this information as a general guide. Q1. Can the nasal tip be raised and improved naturally using only septal cartilage? Yes, it can be possible, although it depends on individual conditions. In the past, surgeries were done using only septal cartilage, and even now, if the conditions allow, natural and sophisticated results can be achieved with septal cartilage alone. However, if the nose is very small or upturned (short nose), cartilage alone may not provide enough support, so a stronger structure is needed to fix the tip. In such cases, rib cartilage (autologous or donated) may be used. In principle, if there are no major nasal issue...
