What is the Difference Between Brow Lift Surgery and Forehead Lift Surgery?

As we age, various changes occur in our body due to aging. As this aging progresses, facial elasticity decreases, especially noticeable changes occur in the thin-skinned eye area. Gradually, the eyebrows and eyelids start to sag, covering the upper part of the black pupil, resulting in a narrowed field of vision and a feeling of heaviness and discomfort when opening the eyes. Due to this, many people experience their eyes appearing smaller overall or their expressions turning gloomier, causing them stress.

Therefore, recently more people are considering surgical lifting methods to address these symptoms. Typically, the representative surgical methods to address sagging eyebrows and eyelids are brow lift and forehead lift surgeries. These two lifting surgeries, though seemingly similar in improving eyelid sagging, differ in surgical methods and outcomes.

However, some people undergo brow lift or forehead lift surgery just because it's popular, without understanding the differences, leading to dissatisfaction and regret due to ineffective results. Therefore, in this post, we will look into the differences between forehead lift and brow lift surgeries in effectively improving eyelid sagging.

What are the differences between brow lift and forehead lift surgeries?

Generally, brow lift surgery improves the sagging area between the eyes and eyebrows, while forehead lift surgery addresses not only the sagging of eyelids and eyebrows but also the forehead, showing differences in effectiveness.

👉brow lift surgery

Firstly, in brow lift surgery, the sagging eyelid is pulled up, the excess part is trimmed off, and the incision along the boundary above or below the eyebrow is sutured and fixed. As a result, the sagging eyelid is lifted, enabling an improvement to a relatively clear and sharp eye appearance.

This procedure is suitable for those who want to improve sagging eyelids while maintaining their existing double eyelid line. It's effective for people with reduced skin elasticity around the eyes due to aging, or those with thick eyelids and sagging skin. However, in cases of severe eyelid sagging, it is effective to combine it with upper blepharoplasty or forehead lift surgery.

Cases where brow lift is needed:

1. When you want to improve sagging eyelids while maintaining the existing double eyelid.

2. When skin elasticity around the eye corners has decreased due to aging.

3. When you don't want double eyelids but have thick and sagging eyelids.

👉forehead lift surgery

On the other hand, forehead lift surgery typically involves the use of an endoscope, hence it's also referred to as 'Endoscopic Forehead Lift Surgery.'

The primary purpose of forehead lift surgery is to lift the sagging eyebrows while also lifting the eyelids, known as eyebrow lifting. This leads to an improvement in the sagging eye appearance and widens the space between the eyes and eyebrows, resulting in a clearer and more refreshed look.

Unlike brow lift surgery, forehead lift surgery approaches from the hairline and scalp area downwards, allowing a more extensive lifting of the sagging around the eyes. This also lifts the forehead area, improving forehead wrinkles.  Therefore, if the space between the eyes and eyebrows is narrow or if there is significant sagging in the forehead, forehead lift surgery may be a better solution than brow lift surgery.

Cases where forehead lift is needed:

1. When there are deep wrinkles in the forehead or between the eyebrows.

2. When the eyebrows sag, causing eyelid droop.

3. When the space between the eye and eyebrow is narrow, making upper eyelid surgery difficult.

4. When the eyelids sag, making the eyes appear smaller.

For both surgeries, the recovery period is similar, with swelling and bruising subsiding in about a week, and normal activities can be resumed in 2-3 weeks. It's necessary to be cautious for about 1-2 months post-surgery to prevent the incision site from spreading. Maintaining cleanliness and avoiding smoking or drinking after surgery can aid in quicker recovery.

We have explored the differences between forehead lift and brow lift surgeries for effectively improving eyelid sagging. As mentioned earlier, brow lift involves incisions around the eyebrows, whereas forehead lift follows the hairline, making the objectives and effects of these surgeries different.

Therefore, while aging itself cannot be stopped, applying a surgical solution that addresses the root cause, tailored to your individual situation, can help maintain a younger and more vibrant appearance for a longer period. Therefore, if you are considering lifting surgery due to changes in your eyes and eyebrows caused by aging, it is important to understand the exact differences and decide after thorough consultation with experienced medical professionals for satisfactory results.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A]

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A] Today, we have compiled clear answers from a Jayjun Plastic Surgery specialist in Korea to frequently asked questions by patients who are considering rhinoplasty.  Please note that surgical methods and outcomes may vary depending on the individual, so use this information as a general guide. Q1. Can the nasal tip be raised and improved naturally using only septal cartilage? Yes, it can be possible, although it depends on individual conditions. In the past, surgeries were done using only septal cartilage, and even now, if the conditions allow, natural and sophisticated results can be achieved with septal cartilage alone. However, if the nose is very small or upturned (short nose), cartilage alone may not provide enough support, so a stronger structure is needed to fix the tip. In such cases, rib cartilage (autologous or donated) may be used. In principle, if there are no major nasal issue...
