About the Price, Types, and Duration of Thread Lift

One of the major factors determining a youthful versus aged appearance is likely the elasticity of the skin. Usually, skin that maintains its elasticity gives a younger impression, whereas when the skin loses its elasticity and sags, it often causes the face to look aged, making one appear older than their actual age. When the skin loses elasticity, causing deep wrinkles and an aged appearance, many consider lifting procedures as the first option to improve this.

Most with these concerns often find facial surgeries daunting due to skin incisions and feel that Botox, fillers, or laser treatments are insufficient, leading them to inquire about the price, types, and duration of Thread Lift. Therefore, in this post, I will take the time to delve into the price, types, and duration of the Thread Lift in detail.

Thread Lift, as the name suggests, is a procedure where medical threads are inserted to pull and lift sagging skin and muscles, maintaining a taut appearance. The medical threads used in Thread Lift vary in material and shape, which can result in differences in the price of the procedure, and depending on the type and number of threads required, the effects and duration might also vary.

Thread Lift Price

On average, the price per line of thread used in Thread Lift varies from 50,000 to 200,000 KRW, and typically, to see the lifting effect, about 6 to 12 lines of threads are used. The number of threads used in a Thread Lift can vary depending on the type of thread, previous procedures, and the degree of skin sagging. Therefore, the exact cost of a Thread Lift can be determined through a thorough consultation with a medical professional.

Simply based on the procedure's effect and scope, using a larger number of threads for lifting can be advantageous. However, without considering these factors, an excessive Thread Lift using a large number of threads can result in unnatural outcomes and side effects. Therefore, it is advisable to make decisions after diagnosis and consultation with experienced medical professionals.

Thread Lift Types

The types of threads used in Thread Lift are broadly classified into dissolvable threads, straight threads without barbs, threads with barbs, and unidirectional and bidirectional threads, among others. Among these, the threads commonly used are Polydioxanone, also known as PDO, and PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic acid or lactide polymer), often referred to as Silhouette Soft, which are dissolvable threads primarily used for lifting. These two types of threads are special medical threads with protruding barbs that hook onto the skin. They directly exert a mechanical force to lift the skin, ensuring that the underlying tissues do not sag by catching onto these barbs, giving a lifting effect. These barbed shapes are also referred to as Corn, Barb, or Cog.

PDO (Polydioxanone) is used in Silk Heart Thread Lift, employing a square-shaped barbed thread that is inserted in a V-shape from in front of and below the ears. This allows for the correction of sagging below the cheekbones, a drawback of traditional Thread Lifts. Consequently, this method offers a lifting procedure that can more effectively lift a sagging jawline simultaneously.

In the case of this thread, it is a safe one approved by the KFDA (Korea Food and Drug Administration) that completely dissolves within the body. Made using a unique compression-cutting manufacturing method, it offers a stronger lifting effect and holding power than traditional unidirectional Thread Lifts, promising a more natural lifting effect.

For PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic acid or lactide polymer), also known as Silhouette Soft, the thread used in the Thread Lift procedure is a 360-degree bidirectional Cone-shaped thread. During the breakdown process, it stimulates collagen production, providing a regenerative effect. It lifts the deep underlying tissues and fills in the skin's volume, resulting in a smoother and more natural facial contour, allowing patients to immediately experience the lifting effect. Moreover, movement between knots is feasible, and due to the thread's thinness, there's less pain and foreign body sensation. After the procedure, patients can still express natural facial expressions.

Thread Lift Duration

The two types of Thread Lifts mentioned above are effective for laugh lines, jawline, wrinkles around the eyes, and deep-set cheeks. Unlike other procedures, it directly pulls and lifts the skin, allowing for immediate results after the procedure. Typically, the duration of the Thread Lift's effect varies depending on the individual's skin condition and the type of procedure, but it's usually around 1 to 2 years. In cases of severe sagging, the effect can last about 6 months.

So far, we've looked into the cost, types, and duration of Thread Lifts. Many consider Thread Lifts to be a simpler procedure compared to facelifts since there are no incisions involved.

However, since the procedure involves inserting barbed threads into the skin, there's a risk of damaging blood vessels or nerves, which means the outcome can vary depending on the medical professional's technique. Therefore, it's recommended to consult with a medical professional who has a deep understanding of skin layers and expertise, to get a solution tailored to your skin condition and plan the procedure accordingly.
