Causes of under eye bags (and how to get rid of them)

Everyone experiences the phenomenon of skin losing its elasticity as they age. This aging is particularly noticeable around the eyes, where the skin is thinner and more prone to sagging. The skin under the eyes sags and the fat protrudes due to aging. This is referred to as 'Under Eye Bags', or 'Under Eye Fat'. When such Eye Bags take root under the eyes, the skin right below the fat loses volume and becomes hollow, changing a person's overall impression.

This can darken the overall impression of the face or disrupt the overall facial lines, easily giving off an aged appearance. As a result, many people wish to remove these protruding under-eye fat pockets and improve to a brighter eye shape. Therefore, in this post, we will explore the causes and solutions for Eye Bags (Under Eye Fat).

Causes of Eye Bags (Under Eye Fat)

Generally, there are various reasons why these Eye Bags (Under Eye Fat Pockets) form, but the primary cause is the aging process. As we age, the orbital septum that supports and envelops the under-eye fat weakens; its elasticity gradually diminishes, leading to weaker retaining ligaments that allow the fat to sag. The sagging fat accumulates downwards, forming what is precisely known as Eye Bags (Under Eye Fat). This leads to stretched skin and wrinkles, making the face appear tired; it can also create dark circles under the eyes due to shadows along the nasal bone or pigment deposits on the skin.

These Eye Bags (Under Eye Fat) can also often appear at a young age due to poor lifestyle habits or genetic reasons. With the increasing use of smartphones and various portable display products, eye fatigue is dramatically rising, accelerating the aging around the eyes and consequently increasing the prevalence of Eye Bags among younger people. Other factors such as stress, lack of sleep, and occasionally diseases can also contribute to the formation of under-eye fat pockets.Prevention is preferable before these under-eye fats become too prominent.

However, if the under-eye fat has already become prominent and sagged, natural healing is nearly impossible once Eye Bags form; therefore, surgical methods like Under Eye Fat Repositioning or lower eyelid surgery are necessary to reposition the protruding under-eye fat and make it flat.

Firstly, Under Eye Fat Repositioning surgery involves making a minimal incision in the lower eyelid's inner conjunctiva using a laser; rather than reducing the amount of under-eye fat, this method repositions it, evening out the lumped fat to naturally improve the entire under-eye area, also potentially improving dark circles.

The use of lasers in Under Eye Fat Repositioning, which involves a minimal incision in the conjunctiva, takes relatively less time—around 30 minutes—and usually allows for a full recovery within a week, posing minimal disruption to daily life. Additionally, since the surgery is performed through the inner conjunctiva of the lower eyelid, there is less concern about surgical marks or scarring, and the under-eye area can be improved so naturally that it's hard to tell whether surgery was done. This method is suitable for those with moderate under-eye fat and smaller protruding areas, allowing for natural under-eye correction while maintaining the appearance of the eyes without any noticeable changes.

However, if there is significant sagging and deep tear troughs in the under-eye area, improvements can be made through lower eyelid surgery, which involves making an incision near the lower eyelash line to remove excess skin and fat, then repositioning the remaining fat. While this method does require an incision and may leave a visible scar line, individual results can vary, but the incision typically becomes nearly invisible after about three months, allowing for a brighter under-eye appearance.

We've looked at the causes and solutions for Eye Bags (Under Eye Fat) so far. To effectively eliminate the pronounced under-eye fat, the amount, position, shape of the fat, and the skills of the medical team can influence the results. Therefore, it's advisable to choose the most appropriate treatment method, taking into consideration individual factors like under-eye bone structure, muscles, conjunctiva, fat distribution, and skin elasticity.

Thus, it's recommended to have thorough consultations with experienced medical professionals for an accurate diagnosis to rejuvenate your under-eye area.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A]

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A] Today, we have compiled clear answers from a Jayjun Plastic Surgery specialist in Korea to frequently asked questions by patients who are considering rhinoplasty.  Please note that surgical methods and outcomes may vary depending on the individual, so use this information as a general guide. Q1. Can the nasal tip be raised and improved naturally using only septal cartilage? Yes, it can be possible, although it depends on individual conditions. In the past, surgeries were done using only septal cartilage, and even now, if the conditions allow, natural and sophisticated results can be achieved with septal cartilage alone. However, if the nose is very small or upturned (short nose), cartilage alone may not provide enough support, so a stronger structure is needed to fix the tip. In such cases, rib cartilage (autologous or donated) may be used. In principle, if there are no major nasal issue...
