[by Korean Jayjun Plastic Surgery]

Aging a phenomenon happens when we get older that no one can avoid. The skin elasticity which was firm will be affected by gravity and sags gradually due to aging, which will cause sagging cheek, double chins and buccal fat, and make others can guess our ages. Although age is only a number, the reality is that people always want to hide the age shown on their faces. It is already sad enough of getting older gradually, but if we hear other saying that our face look older than our actual age due to our decreased skin elasticity of our skin, I think everyone despite of the gender or age, will be pressured and get stressed.

That's why recently, the interest of people towards face lifting, a surgery to improve those problems, is becoming larger and larger. In particular, while facelift, a surgery that even lifts the loosened and weakened SMAS layer which is located deep inside the skin, and gives a young-looking effect, is getting more popular, more and more people send inquiries about it to our hospital. It is the same for all other plastic surgeries, but you should know that depending on the skills of the medical team with extensive experience, the results of facelift will be different. You should also know that depending how the post-surgery management is done, the recovery period or swelling can be reduced.

So, in this post, I will talk about the recovery time of facelift and post-surgery managing method for reducing the swelling in detail.

 👉Best Facelift Recovery Guide👈

There will be individual differences if you do facelift, but in general, large swelling and bruising will be settled down within one to four weeks after surgery, and residual small swelling can last up to six months. During this time, in order to reduce the swelling brought by facelift and the recovery time, you should ensure good rest for the 1st week after the surgery, and avoid acts like lifting heavy loads or lowering the head. In addition, as oily, irritating and spicy food can affect the swelling, for 2 weeks after the surgery, you should avoid food that would give burden to the stomach.

➤Using cold pack after surgery

3-4 days after the Facelift surgery is the period when the swelling is the most serious. Using cold pack from time to time for a week can help to reduce swelling. At this time, small bleeding may happen on the area underwent surgery, so it is better for you to use clean cotton swabs or gauze to wipe only the exudates. As this is the normal progress of Facelift surgery, you do not need to worry so much. Tape and bandages fixed according to the surgical method are for preventing infection of the wound, and preventing give pressure to the wound, so it is recommended not to remove it on your own, and all the processes should be done according to the instructions of the medical staff.

➤Washing face and hair

Usually, stitches are removed within one to two weeks after surgery, so you should avoid washing your face until stitches have been removed. And you should gently wipe your tears and eye booger using clean gauze. For normal face-washing and hair-washing, it is recommended that you wash your face and your hair with minimal irritation to prevent the wound from contacting with the water the next day after the stitches have been removed. At this point, please be careful not to pull the wounds.

➤Exercise & sauna

Light walks or stretching are possible after surgery, but it is recommended to avoid vigorous exercise because it would give pressure to the face. In addition, sauna, or warm water and heat, can open up the sutured area, so you should avoid them because there is a risk of bacterial infection. Vigorous exercise and sauna use should be done at least a month after surgery to help you recover quickly.

➤Drinking and smoking

As alcohol and cigarettes can weaken the immunity of our body, inducing infections or inflammations, so please avoid them for at least 1 month after the surgery, and focus on managing the surgery site.

S
o far, I have talked about the recovery period of Facelift and the post-surgery managing methods that can reduce the swelling. Like what I have mentioned, although Facelift has become very common in these days, you should not overlook the fact that many people have revision surgery due to unexpected side effects and unsatisfactory results. In order to prevent revision surgery, as depending who is performing the surgery and how the surgery is being performed, the result can be very different, I hope you have the surgery after having sufficient consultation with skilful medical team and do the post-surgery management well, and obtain a young-looking face.
