Eyelid and ptosis correction surgery

๐Ÿ‘€ Eyelid and ptosis correction surgery

In my opinion, eyes are a part in which even a very tiny change, like a presence or absence of a line or a slightly different width, can give a huge change in impression. Unlike other areas, sebaceous glands are not developed around the eyes, so the areas around the eyes can get fry easily and wrinkles can form rapidly. Also, as the skin around the eyes is originally thin and does not have a lot of fat, we can say that 'eye' is the place where the aging phenomenon like the sagging of the upper eyelids happens quickly. In particular, if the upper eyelids sag, not only will it make us always look tired and sleepy relatively, it will also block our vision and make our vision narrower, so our impression will become not well-defined or very stuffy, or we will look older than our actual age.

Although there are a lot of cases in which the sagging of the upper eyelid is often caused by aging in general, there are also cases in which the position of the upper eyelids is lower than normal position and it becomes harder to open the eyes due to ptosis. If the ptosis continues to progress slowly, the difficulty of the surgery will be increased due to the process of the degeneration of the tissue, so it is necessary to fix it quickly. Therefore, in this post, I will talk about them causes of ptosis and the corresponding fixing method.

๐Ÿ”ฝ What is ptosis of eyelid?

Ptosis of eyelid is also called the sagging disorder of eyelids. It means the symptoms in which the upper eyelids sag downward as the strength of the muscles (levator muscle of the upper eyelid, levator muscle) that raise and lower the upper eyelid is weak, in other words, as the strength of the muscles that open the eyelid is weak. If there is ptosis, in severe situation in which the upper eyelids sag and cover the black pupil, as the pupil is being blocked, patients will feel difficult to have a clear vision, and in order to raise the upper eyelids, patients will raise the forehead, causing forehead wrinkles being formed.

There are two causes of ptosis, one is congenital reason in which the upper eyelids have been not able to be raised easily since the patients were born, and one is acquired reason in which ptosis happens due to aging or physical damage. In most of the cases of congenital ptosis, the development of the levator muscle of the upper eyelid is abnormal. Sometimes, the abnormality may only happen on one side of the eyes, and sometimes, it can also happen on both eyes. And most these people could rarely open their eyes when they were baby immediately after they were born, and then slowly open their eyes as they grow up.

On the other hand, acquired ptosis happens when the muscles drop from the attaching part due to aging, or when the attachment of the muscles is ruptured due to physical damage. Among people who want to have surgeries like upper eyelid surgery because their upper eyelids sag and get stretched as they get old, many of them have senile ptosis. Therefore, for the case of middle-aged group, if we do upper eyelid surgery that removes the stretched skin of the upper eyelids, and ptosis correction that pulls and fix the eye-opening muscles together, we can improve both the aesthetics and functional problems at the same time.

If ptosis happens, as the upper eyelids sag, it will make people difficult to see things clearly. Also, as the eyelids droops, people around us will always think that we are sleepy. If you cannot open the eyes well, feel that your eyelids are heavy and hard to raise them up, you will use the raise the eyelids with the forehead. As you use the strength of the forehead, wrinkles will form on the forehead.

๐Ÿ”ฝ Representative symptoms of “ptosis”

➤Heavy eyelids that make it hard to open the eyes

➤Impression that looks sleepy

➤Eyelids have sagged due to aging

➤Eyelids become sunken

➤Forehead wrinkles are formed

➤The eyes get tired easily, and have severe headaches and stiff shoulders

๐Ÿ”ฝ About the correction of ptosis

The surgical way of ptosis correction is different depending on the sagging degree of eyelids and the function of the levator muscles of upper eyelids. For levator muscle resection, it is a surgery done when the levator muscles of the upper eyelids can still function in a certain extent, and it is a surgical method in which part of the levator muscles of the upper eyelids is being removed, and then the eyelids are being lifted and fixed. And for levator muscles wrinkles formation, it is a surgery that being done most of the time when it is a senile ptosis, and it is a surgery in which the wrinkles of the levator muscles of the stretched upper eyelids are being grabbed and shortened. Recently, many people choose incisional of non-incisional ptosis correction that can improve the problem as a way that can fix ptosis.

As this is a method that can increase the vertical length of the eyes, increase the exposure of the black pupil, and make the sleepy eyes look more well-defined and fresher, it is gaining popularity among many people.

So far, I've explained in detail the cause and correction method of the ptosis. As mentioned earlier, you should know that even you have a weak eye-opening strength, it does not mean that you have to have uniform surgery. Therefore, it is necessary to change the surgical method depending on the individual's eyelid skin condition or the degree of the functioning of the upper eyelids’ levator muscles. If you want to improve the sleepy eyes, I hope you can have sufficient consultation with medical team with rich anatomical knowledge about the eyes, and get your eyes recovered not only aesthetically, but also functionally.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A]

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A] Today, we have compiled clear answers from a Jayjun Plastic Surgery specialist in Korea to frequently asked questions by patients who are considering rhinoplasty.  Please note that surgical methods and outcomes may vary depending on the individual, so use this information as a general guide. Q1. Can the nasal tip be raised and improved naturally using only septal cartilage? Yes, it can be possible, although it depends on individual conditions. In the past, surgeries were done using only septal cartilage, and even now, if the conditions allow, natural and sophisticated results can be achieved with septal cartilage alone. However, if the nose is very small or upturned (short nose), cartilage alone may not provide enough support, so a stronger structure is needed to fix the tip. In such cases, rib cartilage (autologous or donated) may be used. In principle, if there are no major nasal issue...
