Can a long mid face be shortened? long midface surgery

The importance of the ratio of face!

If we look at the common characteristics of people who have a young looking face, we will find that they all have faces and facial features that are not long. When we divide our face into three equal parts vertically, we will get upper face, mid-face and lower face, and if the mid-face is short, our image will look young. In particular, in the medical field, it is said that if the upper face, mid-face and lower face area of the face are in a 1:1:0.8 ratio, that kind of face is said to be having the ideal balance.

At this point, what we say a feeling that the face looks long is not an absolute length, but instead, it can be caused by the “proportion problem”. For example, we usually say that the ideal length of the forehead should be 6-6.5cm when closing eyes, and 5.5-6cm when opening eyes. If the forehead is longer than 7.5cm, the proportion of the upper face will be increased, so the entire face will look long.

In addition, for the mid-face, which means the length starting from the bottom of the eyebrows to the nose tip, when the length of the nose is long, it usually makes the face look long, and when the lower face, which means the area starting from the philtrum to the end of the jaw, is longer than the upper face and mid-face, the face will look like having lantern jaw in most of the case. Among these situations, sometimes, if you look at the celebrities with relative long noses in the middle of the face compared to the overall balance of the face, some of them may have a mature and elegant atmosphere, but in most of the case, their faces look old. Also, in many of the case of long mid-face, the nose tends to look long and the size of the face tends to look big, so it becomes a complex to people very often. Therefore, in this post, I will introduce some methods to fix the long mid-face surgery.

Before talking about the methods that can improve the balance of the long mid-face by creating an ideal ratio, it is necessary to look at the reasons causing the mid-face area of the face look long first. We need to check whether the face looks long because the nose tip sags or it looks long because the mid-face area is long, and choose the improving method that is suitable for that particular situation.

If the nose tip droops downward compared to the overall ratio of the face, making the mid-face looks long, raising the location of the cartilage of the nose wings and reducing the nasal septum that is long and sagging can improve the situation and make the mid-face look shorter. At this point, the important point is to raise the nose tip and slightly lower the nose bridge. In situation in which the nose tip droops like a hook nose or in which the nose is too long without matching the ratio of the face, and the nose is stretched out, making the impression of ones look old, this can change the impression which looked strong and fierce into a soft and young-looking face by adjusting the ratio.

For nasal bones, although medical team with rich experience is possible to examine them simply through observation by naked eyes or palpation, in order to examine the internal structure of the nose accurately, a checkup with precise equipment is needed to be done. Next, in the case in which the mid-face area is long, if we widen the horizontal width of the eyes through epicanthoplasty, or enlarge the vertical size of the eyes through double eyelid surgery or ptosis correction, the blank feeling of the front cheek can be reduced, and the mid-face will look shorter.

Other than the aforementioned situations, if the mid-face looks long because it is sunken, we need to add volume to make the mid-face look shorter. Methods that give 3-dimensional effect through fat graft on the side face or injecting filler can also improve the problem and make the mid-face not looking too long. So far, I have introduced methods that can improve the long mid-face into a young-looking image that matches the ratio. However, it does not mean that everyone who have a long mid-face needs to make improvements through surgical means. If your mid-face is long and does not match the overall ratio of the face, which becomes a complex to you, you are recommended to have sufficient consultation with medical staff who can accurately identify various causes that make your face look long and suggest a 1:1 customized solution using different techniques that is suitable to you.

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A]

Everything You Need to Know Before Getting a Nose Job in Korea [Jayjun Plastic Surgery Q&A] Today, we have compiled clear answers from a Jayjun Plastic Surgery specialist in Korea to frequently asked questions by patients who are considering rhinoplasty.  Please note that surgical methods and outcomes may vary depending on the individual, so use this information as a general guide. Q1. Can the nasal tip be raised and improved naturally using only septal cartilage? Yes, it can be possible, although it depends on individual conditions. In the past, surgeries were done using only septal cartilage, and even now, if the conditions allow, natural and sophisticated results can be achieved with septal cartilage alone. However, if the nose is very small or upturned (short nose), cartilage alone may not provide enough support, so a stronger structure is needed to fix the tip. In such cases, rib cartilage (autologous or donated) may be used. In principle, if there are no major nasal issue...
